Do you like where you sit?
Happy new quarter!
That means a new seating chart!
You may apply for a seat in this class (meaning you may request
where you would like to sit).
Your application must be a proper paragraph explaining to me why I
should give you the seat you are requesting.
You must pick at least one seat (a seating chart with the desks
numbered will be on the next slide)

Your first assignment of Quarter 2!
This is your first assignment of second quarter! Lets start the quarter
off right by doing our best!
Last quarter we worked on paragraphs. In our new unit we will be
reading short stories, eventually working on writing essays.
First we reflect on first and second quarters connecting them.
Next we will be working on short stories. You will be given sentence
starters to begin your stories.
Reflecting on last quarter
In one paragraph per question, reflect on the past quarter by
responding to the following questions (each is worth 10 points):
1. Based on the experiences of your first quarter in high school,
explain how well you transitioned from middle school to high
school. Some things to consider are the academics, extra-curricular
opportunities, and the social environment (peers/friendships).
2. What are some challenges and triumphs that you have had so far?
Discuss what you would have done differently if given a second
chance. What advice would you give in-coming freshman? Why?
3. List all of your courses and next to each course, predict what your
quarter grade will be. Explain the reason for each grade. (This does
not need to be in paragraph form)
Story starters
Read each of the story starters carefully. Select one story starter to
develop into a fictional story with a plot and characters.
Make sure you provide details, in some instances, background
information can help make your story more believable.
Start by reading each story starter and brainstorming ideas for each
one.
Story Starter options
1. Yesterday started out ordinarily enough, but by eight in the morning I knew it was
going to be the most unusual day of my life.
2. They crinkled their noses, wondering what could make the room smell like that.
3. The robber grabbed the rare painting and unexpectedly took the frisky Chihuahua.
4. The courageous knight rode his horse into town and after that everything changed.
5. Sandys was eight to ten but I had a test in fifth period.
6. The dentist looked nice enough, but when he smiled he had no teeth. Thats when I
knew I was in trouble.
7. The fishing pole bent double but I had a big feeling that the fish on the end was more
than just a fish.
8. When I reached for my wallet to pay for dinner, I discovered that it had been stolen.

your story.
