I couldnt control it much longer. A smile quickly grew onto her face. She wasnt
even fully out in the open yet. I looked straight at her and jumped into her arms. My
body was filled with joy and relief. Even though she was right in front of me, I still
couldnt believe that she was finally here. The tears couldnt be held back any longer.
She lifted my head up, gently grinned at me, and softly wiped away my tears.
I missed you, I said.
I missed you too, she answered.
It was a cool, winter afternoon. The doors of the yellow school bus shifted open,
and I jumped out of the bus. I watched the large vehicle drive past, as I headed home,
trying to be cautious of the slippery ice. The bubbly feeling began to to grow in my
stomach when I walked through the front doors of the house. I searched for my dad
right after I entered the home. A delicious aroma of Tinola filled the home, and I figured
that he was in the kitchen. There was a reason he was cooking that specific dish. It was
my moms favorite.
He looked at me with a twinkle in his eye and said, Todays the day.
My dad was right. December 4, 2009, was the day. It was the day when we would all be
together once again. MarJo, my dad, and I had waited three long years for this day to
come. The fact that it had already been three years caught me off guard. The years

were bitter sweet for all five of us. I learned how to ride a bike, MarJo started playing
basketball, we moved into a new house, and my mom got a new car. The only problem
was that we were all separated from another. We werent all together when the joyous
moments occured. I felt like it was just yesterday, I myself, was walking through the gate
of the plane, taking my first few steps in Sitka, Alaska. Now, it was my moms and
Messiahs turn to experience the happiness that I felt when I first arrived here. I couldnt
wait until I could jump right into her arms, once again.
MarJo, my dad, and I spent hours preparing for their arrival. I helped MarJo
prepare his bedroom which he was going to share with Messiah in just a couple of
hours. He started making his bed and began throwing pillows across the room and one
hit me right in the face. I grabbed the biggest pillow I could find and chucked it at him,
but he reached his arm out and caught the pillow right before it was about to hit his
back. Like a ninja, he gave me the death stare and creeped towards me.
You do realize that when Kuya gets here, youre gonna be living in a world of
torture, he stated, with an evil smirk on his face. I just rolled my eyes and exited the
room. As I was walking out, I realized that he wasnt kidding. Kuya means big brother
in Tagalog, and since I have another big brother arriving, there would be twice the
teasing, twice the the annoying comebacks, and quadruple the farting! I knew that it
would become more challenging to be victorious in the endless battles that would occur
because theyll gang up on me. I figured that one day, when we become older and more
mature, that the wars would end and we would finally be able to make peace. Im still
waiting for that day. It might be easier in a way also, since I have my mom coming too,
shell be there to back me up in the arguments that were soon to come. Id finally have

someone to go shopping with also. Shopping with my dad was just plain awkward and
weird. The thought made me quite excited and little jumpy.
Hours passed and we were minutes away from the airport. I heard the faint
sound of Hotel California playing in the backround as we drove our way across the
bridge. My dad dropped MarJo and I in by the automatic doors, in front of the airport
and left to find a parking space. The first thing I noticed when I walked into the airport
was the scent of dinner cooking in The Nugget and I think my stomach may have even
growled a bit. I look to my right and I see Miah and her family sitting on the navy blue
chairs. Miah ran up, and tackles me. Both of us dusted ourselves off and chuckled. My
dad walks in and calmed both of us down.
Realizing that Messiah and my mom were going to land any second, I grabbed
Miah, and I told her a plan, Okay, when I see them heading outside of the gate, Ill
signal you to come and hug them.
But how will I know what the signal is? questioned Miah.
Youll know it when you see it, I responded. Each and every one of us, waited
anxiously for the plane finally land. I observed my dad getting impatient and he began to
shake his leg that night. He couldnt wait any longer, none of us could. Suddenly, an
attendant walked up to the gate doors and unlocked them. Passengers trudged their
way out, carrying their luggage. My eyes began to get irritated, so I started to rub them.
I opened my eyes up, and they were right there.
