Child marriage in chad:

Child marriage is common in Chad. More than a third of young women are married before the age of
15. Aid organisations working in the country are trying to raise awareness about the higher health
risks for young girls when they become pregnant and also encourage education programmes which
keep girls in school.
Chad has the third highest rate of child marriage in the world 68% of girls
are married as children and, unlike many other countries, the practice is
prevalent in both wealthy and less wealthy households.

Child marriage around the world-
One third of the worlds girls are married before the age of 18 and 1 in 9 are married before
the age of 15.
In 2010, 67 million women 20-24 around the world had been married before the age of 18.
If present trends continue, 142 million girls will be married before their 18th birthday over the
next decade. Thats an average of 14.2 million girls each year.
While countries with the highest prevalence of child marriage are concentrated in Western
and Sub-Saharan Africa, due to population size, the largest number of child brides reside in
South Asia.

EVERY YEAR 14 MILLION GIRLS
ARE MARRIED AS CHILDREN, DENIED THEIR RIGHTS TO HEALTH,
EDUCATION AND OPPORTUNITY, AND ROBBED OF THEIR CHILDHOOD.
IF WE DO NOTHING, BY 2030 AN ESTIMATED 15.4 MILLION GIRLS A
YEAR WILL MARRY AS CHILDREN.
Every year, an estimated 14 million girls aged under 18 are married
worldwide with little or no say in the matter. In the developing world, one in
seven girls is married before her 15th birthday and some child brides are as
young as eight or nine.
Neither physically nor emotionally ready to become wives and mothers,
these girls are at far greater risk of experiencing dangerous complications
in pregnancy and childbirth, becoming infected with HIV/AIDS and suffering
domestic violence. With little access to education and economic
opportunities, they and their families are more likely to live in poverty
