Global Pharmaceuticals Inc. uses two separate sales forces to promote its products to physicians. Information
about the desired call frequency to physicians in each of the medical specialties is provided below along with the
time needed for the associated call related activities.
Each salesperson also averages three weeks of vacation, 12 paid holidays, four weeks of training, one week at the
national sales meeting, one day each quarter at the District sales meeting, and four sick days. Based on this
information and using the information provided below, determine the total number of salespeople needed by
Global Pharmaceuticals Inc. to be able to staff both sales forces (i.e., the combined number of the sales people for
both cardiology and oncology sales forces).


There are 2000 cardiologist and each should be visted 6 times a year. Therefore, first multiple
2000*6= 12000 calls. Now, each call takes 10+10+10+30=60 mins. Therefore, you can say it
takes 720000 mins. now count the same thing for clinics and private office.
it would come to 180000 and 180000 mins. Total mins needed would be
720000+180000+180000= 1080000.
Now check how many days sales person would work. There are 52 weeks in a year. 5 working
days per week. Therefore, total working days would be 260 days.
Sales people would have three weeks vacation which means 15 days off. 12 paid holiday. 4
weeks of training which means 20 days off. 5 days at national meeting. 4 sick days and 4 days
for district sales meeting.( one day each quater).
Total 60 days off. We now have only 200 working days and worker would work for 8 hours a
day. Therefore, onw worker can work for 1600 hours. 1600*60=96000 mins.

Now think if onw worker can work for 96000 mins how many you will need to cover 1080000
mins. That is 1080000/96000= 11.25
