11. Two synchronous machines are connected through three-phase transformers to a transmission line as shown in Fig.Q11, The data for the system-shown are as follows:

Generators G1 and G2: 100 MVA, 20 kV, Xpos == Xneg = 20 %, Xzero == 4 % ; neutral reactance == 5 % all on generator ratings; Transformers T1 and T2: 20 kV-delta/34S kV-wye, leakage reactance == 8%

Transmission line: Xpos = xneg = 15 %; Xzero == 50 % on 100 MVA.

The system is operating at nominal voltage (1.0 pu) and pre-fault currents can be neglected, Find (i) fault currents in pu, (ii) post-fault line-to-graund voltage of bus 1 for a single line-ta-ground fault at bus 4.

12(b). Derive the power flow model and then obtain the Fast-decoupled power flow model for an 'N' bus system. Explain the algorithmic steps for getting power flow solution using Fast-decoupJed power flow method. (16)

13(a)0). List the factors affecting the rotor angle stability of power system. (4)

(a)(ii). A 50 Hz synchronous generator having inertia constant H = 5 s and a transient reactance X'd = 0.2 pu is connected to an infinite bus through purely reactive circuit as shown in Fig.Q13a. Reactances are marked on the diagram on a common system base. The generator is delivering real power of 0.6 PUr 0.9 power factor lagging to the infinite bus at a voltage of V == 1 pu. Assume the pu damping coefficient is 0.15. Consider a small disturbance of .8.0 = 10°.

13(b). The synchronous machine shown in Fig. Q13b is generating 100 MW and 75 MVAR.

The voltage of the infinite bus q is 1+jO pu. The generator is connected to the infinite bus through a line of reactance 0.08 p.u, on a 100 MVA base. The machine transient reactance is 0.2 pu and the inertia constant is 4 pu on a 100 MVA base. A 3-$ fault occurs at bus 'po for a duration of 0.1 sec. Compute the rotor angle at t = 0.03 sec (~t = 0.03 sec) by applying Modified Euler method. The frequency of the supply is 60 Hz. (16)

14(a). What is, the function of an overexcitation limiter (OXL)? Give its block diagram and equations describing its function. Explain its functions with relevant sketches showing outputs of various blocks when there is a step increase in field current over the set point.

15(a). Derive the equations of motion of a lumped mass model of a generating unit driven by a tandem compound reheat turbine. The five masses represent the rotor of the generator, one HP section, one IP section and two LP sections. (16)

(i) Determine the inertia constant H in MW-sec I MVA for each of the four rotor masses and stiffness Kin pu torque I elec. rad for each of the four shaft sections. (8)

(ii) Compute the steady-state torque transmitted by each shaft section and angular displacement between the generator and HP turbine section when the generator is operating at the rated output. Neglect exciter mass and generator-exciter shaft section for this purpose. (8)
