What is MLA Style?

MLA: Modern Language Association


MLA Style is a style of formatting for
research papers and essays, usually
used in the arts and humanities.
It gives us simple guidelines to make
sure your essay is attractively formatted,
and properly cited to avoid plagiarism
accusations.
Part One: Formatting your Page

Set your margins to 1 on each side: left,
right, top and bottom.

Use 12 pt. Times New Roman font.

Double Space!

List your Name, the Teachers Name,
the Course Code, and the Due Date at
the top of the paper.
Each on separate lines
Align Left

Centre align your title. DO NOT underline it.

Indent the first line of each paragraph (hit
the tab key at the start of the line).
Dont leave an extra line between
paragraphs.

When you are citing or referring to a novel or
a feature film, use italics for the title.




For short stories, short films or poems put
the title in quotation marks: e.g. Lamb to the
Slaughter
