JUNO-AWARD WINNING ARTIST, LEELA GILDAY TO RELEASE HEART OF THE

PEOPLE OCTOBER 28, 2014 AT THE GLADSTONE HOTEL, TORONTO

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
TORONTO. October 14, 2014 - Juno Award-winning Dene singer/songwriter Leela Gilday
will release her fourth CD Heart of the People on Tuesday, October 28
th
at the Gladstone
Hotel. This highly anticipated recording of 11 tracks, produced by Murray Pulver, features
many guests including the recent Polaris Prize winning throat singer Tanya Tagaq.

Along with band members from Yellowknife, Winnipeg, and Ottawa, Leela will showcase her
passionate and soulful brand of storytelling through song from 8pm to 11pm. Joining her on
stage to open the show will be groundbreaking cellist, Cris Derksen. Doors open at 7pm.

This record is the embodiment of all the powerful emotions that I feel when writing about
our connection to the earth - the heartbeat of our people, and the stories of loss and of
healing, explains Leela. The way that I've articulated those stories, and then the way that I
sang my guts out - really for me, this record realizes all the reasons I play music.

One Reviewer says: Now heres a formidable aboriginal woman pissed off at injustice and
telling it like it is; heres a powerful yet sensual voice blending pop, gut-punching rock n roll
and traditional Dene songs.
