The superimposed dead loads are those loads placed on the superstructure after the deck has cured,
and thus has begun to work with the primary members. These are sidewalks, railings, parapets,
signing, utilities and the wearing surface.
(In this model approximate value of superimposed dead loads i.e. 1.5 kN/m2 as describe in Onesteel
tables [13] for a typical office building is adopted.)

3.4.2 Superimposed Dead Load
This shall consist of all permanent loads added after the structural system becomes complete. It
shall include handrails, guardrails, lamp standards, kerbs, services and road surfacing. Surfacing shall
be allowed for at 1.5 kN/m
2
, whether the intention is to surface the bridge immediately or not. An
allowance shall be made for future services in addition to the weight of actual services installed at
the time of construction. A minimum allowance of 0.25 kN/m2 shall be applied as a uniformly
distributed load over the full width and length of the bridge deck.
