MEMORANDUM

TO: CHRIS GIBSON FOR CONGRESS

FROM: PATRICK LANNEPUBLIC OPINION STRATEGIES

SUBJECT: NEW YORK CD-19 RECENT POLL RESULTS

DATE: OCTOBER 16, 2014

Public Opinion Strategies recently conducted a district-wide survey of 400 likely voters, reached
via landline and cell phone on behalf of the Gibson for Congress campaign. The poll was
conducted October 14-15, 2014 and has a margin of error of +/- 4.9% in 95 out of 100 cases.
The purpose of this memo is to review some of the key findings of that poll.

Key Findings

Chris continues to own a strong lead. Congressman Gibson leads his Democratic
challenger Sean Eldridge, 56%-30%. In September, Siena College showed Gibson leading
by a similar margin, 57%-33% and a July DFM Research poll had Chris leading 56%-29%.
Gibson continues to lead despite being outspent by Sean Eldridge, $2.95 million to $1.4
million as of September 30.

Gibson is personally popular. 19
th
District voters have a very strong personal opinion of
Congressman Gibson, 62% favorable 19% unfavorable. Gibsons impressive three-to-
one positive rating comes after enduring weeks of false attack ads from Sean Eldridge.

The Bottom Line
This poll echoes two independent polls from earlier this year showing Congressman Gibson in a
strong position for re-election. Gibson is personally popular and leads his challenger by a wide
margin even as the Democrats launched substantial negative advertisements against him.
Despite spending almost $3 million dollars as of September 30 and another $1 million just on
TV alone from October 1 October 15, Sean Eldridge is failing to gain traction. It is no wonder;
both Politico and Roll Call have named Sean Eldridge among the most disappointing candidates
of the cycle.
