What is Mitosis?
Form of Asexual Reproduction
Nucleus divides to form two nuclei
These nuclei will eventually form two
identical daughter cells
Why mitosis?
1)Growth-Human organs grow by
mitosis.
2)Repair/Replacement- If you get a cut
the wound is healed by mitosis of your
skin cells.
3)Reproduction- Bacteria reproduce
using mitosis
All cells go through mitosis besides sex
cells

Chromosomes copied inside nucleus
Each chromosome now has a sister
chromosome

identical daughter cells each with their
own nucleus composed of identical
chromosomes
