What is the relationship between craters, calderas, vents, and
magma? They are all connected and they all have something to do
with the magma chamber.
How does a crater lake form? Volcanic Eruptions (words and
pictures) A crater lake forms when a volcano sinks into the
ground and forms sort of a hole in the ground. Over time, water
from rain and other things is added to the hole, forming a lake.
What two factors does a volcanos appearance depend upon? The
type of material its made out of and the type of eruptions that
occur
What characteristics vary among volcanoes? There is shield,
cinder-cone, and composite volcanoes.

How do the volcanoes compare in terms of size and slope? The
slopes of cinder-cone and composite volcanoes are concave
What factors cause differences in size and slope? Different kinds
of material, vegetation, climate, and the history of the volcano
What is tephra? Rock fragments thrown into the air during a
volcanic eruption
What is a pyroclastic flow? Rapidly moving volcanic material
Where are most volcanoes found? Along convergent boundaries
Use the maps provided to show: (1) the Circum Pacific Belt and the
Mediterranean Belt where convergent volcanism occur and (2) the
Hawaiian Emperor Volcanic Chain.
How do hotspots form? When high-temperature plumes of
mantle material rise toward the surface
What do hotspots tell us about tectonic plates?
That they may form a new island
