Key Stage 3 National Curriculum Levels cover the following approximate ranges in relation to each year group: year 7 = levels 3 - 5 year 8 = levels 4 - 6 year 9 = levels 5 - 8 in addition to each National Curriculum Level awarded, progress within that level will be shown as a, b or c indicating how close the student is to achieving the next level. In addition to each National Curriculum Level awarded, progress within that level will be shown as a, b or c indicating how close the student is to achieving the next Level. i.e. 4a (Higher) indicates that the student is close to achieving Level 5 whereas 4c (Lower) would indicate that the pupil is only just working at Level 4. W represents students who are working towards achieving Level 1, but have yet to achieve the standards needed for that level.

Target Levels.
Targets Levels reflect the progress that students are expected to make from the end of Key Stage 2 to the end of year 11. All students are expected to make 4 levels of progress. Please see detailed table below.
