IDENTITY

Who am I?
How would you define your identity and what does
it mean to you?
Identity is our self, our personality and our
individuality
Who am I?
You will probably find that some of your
answers relate to your social identity e.g.
gender, work, social class etc (these usually
come first) and some may relate to your
personality including feelings, abilities and
interests (these are usually second)
Who am I?
You may have more than one identity -
can you think of any examples?
Who am I?
These social identities help define the roles
we play in society and also what is
expected of us from others.
They can change over time depending on
the groups we are in and the roles we take
Who am I?
Cultural identity means the identity of the
group you feel you belong to. You might say
I am a member of a football club, or I am
English, or I am a student. It is how you see
yourself within a group.
Who am I?
Identity can be seen as the
interface between subjective
positions and social. Identity
gives us an idea of who we are
and of how we relate to others
and to the world in which we
live. Identity marks the ways in
which we are the same as
others who share that position,
and the ways in which we are
different from those who do not.'
