Camp NOVAC: Camp NOVAC stands for Nutrition, Opportunities, Variety, Activity, and
Choices. This was a camp for kids that the Health and Wellness Department put on. I
participated in the planning, implementing, and evaluation stages of this camp. Although the date
was set and registration forms went out before I began my internship, I helped plan the specific
activities and itinerary for each day. The Itinerary is pictured below.

After I created the itinerary a created a list of supplies we would need for camp, and which days
we would need them. This made the preparation the day before camp started very easy. Once
camp started I was in charge of the conversation maps. The conversation maps are an interactive
educational game, involving different lessons. The lessons included health food choices, the
food groups, listening to your body/hunger signals, and other key health information for kids.

After the conclusion of the camp I compared the pre-tests with the post-tests and determined that
each kid improved their score and knowledge of health.
Festival Fair Day: I was in charge of the fitTOGETHER table at the festival fair day. The
festival fair day is a community fun day during the Lancaster Festival. I decided what activities
we would be doing. I planned to have jump ropes and hula-hoops for the kids to do, as well as a
fitness activity to win a jump rope. During the festival fair day I gave out 250 jump ropes. I
also passed out information for parents and healthy snack ideas bookmarks for kids.
Community Health Festival: I came up with ideas for fitTOGETHER to do during the
Community Healthfest. I thought a physical fitness test would be fun for the kids to do, as well
as relay races. I worked with Chris on the logistics and created a card for the fitness testing.

We had 105 kids participate in the fitness testing. After the kids completed their test, we told the
kids where they stand compared to the national physical fitness test standards. The kids really
enjoyed it and kept coming back to try to beat their last effort.

fitTOGETHER Turkey Day 5k: The fitTOGETHER Turkey Day 5k was my idea to do as a
fundraiser for fitTOGETHER. I picked the date, which will be Thanksgiving day 2012
(November 22, 2012). After I picked a date, I researched already certified courses in Lancaster.
Once I found a course that I liked, I emailed the certifier and got approval to use the course. I
also drafted a sponsorship letter that will soon be going to local businesses to ask for donations.
Here is an image of the letter.

My job as an intern was to begin the planning process for the 5k.

Set up tracking system for fitTOGETHER: I developed a questionnaire for fitTOGETHER to
use to track how well they are getting out into the community. The questionnaire I developed is
below.
