Description: The purpose of the interactive notebook is to enable
students to organize their ideas and understanding of scientific
concepts. Students learn to develop responsibility and take
ownership of their work, as well as using the notebook as a
reference tool. Interactive notebooks are used for class notes as
well as for other activities where the student will be asked to
express his/her own ideas and process the information presented in
class. Requirements vary from teacher to teacher and is set up
according to the directions of the teacher.
Modifications To complement the website, students can be assigned or choose
their own peer-reviewed, scientific article to read. Students will
read and analyze the article to identify the components of the
authors scientific process and assess the validity of the claim.
Doing this will exercise students literacy skills and encourage
scientific practices.
Additional Activities To follow up with the writing practice, students can discuss their
analysis with class partners and expand on their literacy practices.
Thematic Units/Topics The website focuses on six bioscience topics that would be most
suitable to life science components of student curriculum.
