1. The Issue or Need of the Community



A) What is the Issue?
Identify the issue or need of the community
Describe it objectively
B) Why is it Important?
Describe who or what it affects in the present (e.g., specific individuals,
animals, habitats)
What are the consequences for future generations if we do not solve this
issue or need?
2. Solutions
A) Solutions for the Issue
1. Come up with your own solutions (You have creative
freedom! You can design or plan in any way you choose,
just remember that it must be sustainable)
(Note: you do not need to re-invent the wheel. If you find a solution that you OR
think would be great for our community, you can use that)
2. Research solutions that other communities have adopted and that you think
can be applied to our community here in Uxbridge
B) Three Goals of Sustainable Development
For your solutions, discuss how it promotes:
Economic development
Social development
Environmental Protection
C) Challenges that Affect your Solutions
Identify and discuss the challenge(s) that can potentially get in the way of
your solutions. Examples include:
Cost
Population growth
Increasing urbanization
Continued dependence on fossil fuels
Increasingly disruptive weather due to climate change (e.g. tornadoes, ice storms,
heat waves, etc)
Limits of the physical environment/landscape
D) Take Action
Identify and discuss the type(s) of action your solution will
require in order for it to be implemented into the
community. Examples include:
Educate and Inform (e.g., articles, plays, poems, posters,
advertisements, workshops)
Make Consumer Choices (buying or refusing to buy particular products)
Persuade Others to (e.g., letters, Public Service Announcements,
advertisements)
Raise Funds
Engaging in Political Action (e.g., meeting with elected officials, petitions,
writing letters, initiate legislative action)
Eco-management Projects (e.g., making physical changes to the environment
including schoolyard naturalization, tree planting, river bank stabilization)
Make Lifestyle Choices (personal habits)
Other
