What is the United Nations?

An international organization of countries set up in 1945, in succession to the League of Nations, to

promote international peace, security, and cooperation.
What is UNESCO and what does it do?
An agency of the United Nations set up in 1945 to promote the exchange of information, ideas, and
culture. It undertakes projects aimed at eradicating poverty, achieving sustainable development and
promoting the culture of peace.

There are 193 members of the UN.
Where is UN headquarters?
The UN headquarters is in New York.
Only 56% of the worlds young people get a chance to go to primary school throughout the world
How does this make you feel?
The fact that just over half of the population have had the chance to go to primary school really
shocked me as I thought it would be around 75% of the population that have the chance to go to
primary school.
What are the remaining 44% of the worlds young people (those that dont get a chance to go to
primary school) do? What does their day look like? What activities are they involved in?
When most children dont get to go to primary school they are normally doing something to help
their families e.g. work or looking after them.
