Case #5

Issue: Honesty
Topic: What would you do?
Thesis: Report

Main Point

C - The company has a strict policy regarding cases of theft of company property. Every month, the
company sells used equipment through bidding and place it on a table. An employee who is about to
retire stole an electric drill one day before the bidding. An employee saw what happened.

I - Justice for the owner of the firm.

A - To report the incident.

Method:

Non-Consequentialism- duty to follow the law. The firm is strict about the issue of theft/stealing. Even
though he is about to retire he is still oblige to follow the rules.

5 Principles:
Justice or Fairness- it is obviously seen that the employee stole the equipment. The said
employee was not fair to the other employees because he didnt give the opportunity for the
potential bidders to bid for the equipment.
Truth telling or Honesty- This principle is affirmed by the one who saw the employee stealing
the equipment. He should really do the right thing through telling what happened.
Goodness or rightness- the employee stole an electric drill and didnt thought of doing the right
thing.
Individual freedom- the theft had the opportunity to the right thing and follow the normal flow
to get your desired equipment.

Counter attack- if the opposing party asked about the act, if it is really stealing. I would say that yes,
because the moment that the employee put the equipment in the car, it may be a form of stealing, in
addition, why would the employee slip the drill if he/she doesnt have the intention to steal the drill.
