10. Communication and Collaboration (LO 4.

1) (APS 10)
A. Family Communication:
During the semester, I will be continuously communicating with
parents/guardians in order to create a partnership between school and home. The
first form of communication will be through an introduction letter. This letter will
be written to inform parents/guardians that I will be working in their childs
classroom. It will tell them a little bit about myself, my background, and how
excited I am to be working with their child. These letters will be sent home with
each student. Weekly classroom newsletters are another way I will be
communicating with parents/guardians. These newsletters will contain
information about curriculum be covering each week, lunch menu, and any other
important news. I will also have parent/teach conferences in order to update
parents on their childs performance and behaviors, good or bad.
Parents/guardians will also be contacted through e-mails face-to-face meetings, and
phone calls. An example of introduction letter and weekly newsletter can be found
in attachments.

B. Communication/Collaboration with Colleagues:
I will be communicating with my colleagues and community members
multiple times during the semester for many reasons. One of these being, during
certain units, I will ask community members such as police officers, firemen, town
mayor, etc. to come and speak for career day. I will make contact through phone
calls, e-mails or written letters. Field trips will be another time when I communicate
with community members. I will be in constant communication with my grade level
teachers to plan our classroom curriculum. This will be done through face-to-face
meetings and e-mails. For those students who require addition instruction in other
classrooms, I will communicate their instruction strategies and needs with those
teachers through e-mails, written letters, and face-to-face meetings.
