Magnetic storage
Magnetic storage media and devices store data in the form of tiny
magnetised dots.
These Dots are created, read and erased using magnetic felds created by
very tiny electromagnets.
Examples:
!ard drive
"ortable hard drive disc
Magnetic tapes
Solid state backing storage
The term #solid state$ essentially means #no moving parts$ %no
reels of tape, no spinning discs, no laser beams&.
The data stored on a solid state bac'ing storage is re(ritable

Back ups
* bac' up is a copy of a fle.
+t is stored on alternative medium to the original.
Data could be corrupt on the other media or + could have
been accidently deleted.
Storage Methods
Sequential access/ serial access is (hen you can access the
data but you have to go through every single bit of data
*dvantage cheap
Dis advantage it ta'es a long time to get to the correct data
)e,uential data is often magnetic storage devices
Random access/ direct access
-andom access data is (hen you can access data (hich you can
access at any point (ithout having to go through all the data in
order.
*dvantage you can s'ip through data
