Futuristic City Design Concepts

Kayleigh Anderson initially wanted to create a romantic city inspired by Venice and Paris but realized this was too generic. She then decided on a futuristic city with modern and abandoned areas, looking to The Last of Us and The Hunger Games for inspiration. Her futuristic city features tall, geometric buildings made of odd shapes and bright lighting. For transport, she included solar-powered hover vehicles and a vehicle called Sky Tran. The architecture is based on computer components, random shapes, and styles from Bauhaus, Art Deco, and modern cities like Silicon Valley and Tokyo. She included establishing, low-angle, and interior shots, researching similar photos for inspiration.

INVISIBLE CITIES RESEARCH

KAYLIEGH ANDERSON
MY INITIAL IDEAS
Initially I wanted to create a romantic city with pastel colours so I began looking at cities such as Venice and
Paris to inspire me. As I explored these ideas I realised that this was somewhat of a dead end because Id
create something generic. When I started exploring Ersilia I decided to take a completely different route. I
pictured the main city as being somewhat modern and futuristic and I also imagined a smaller run down
part which had been abandoned. I looked at the game The Last of us and the film/book The Hunger games
for inspiration. Further along I decided to take away the abandoned city and just work on the element of
the Futuristic city.
WHAT MAKES A CITY FUTURISTIC?
As I was making a futuristic city I decided to look at other
fictional futuristic cities to see what they had in common.
Future cities tend to have tall, extravagant buildings made up of
odd geometric shapes. The buildings are often sharp and
smooth. The cities are often bright and well lit.
TRANSPORT
For my transport I tried to have energy efficient hover vehicles that ran off sunlight and I also looked into a
vehicle that was being made in the future called Sky Tran which is also green and based one of my
methods of transport around it.
ARCHTECTURE
I based most of my cities architecture on computer components
and random shapes I made along with influences such as
Bauhaus and Art Deco however I also looked at modern real
cities such as Silicon Valley, Singapore, Taipei, New York, Tokyo,
Moscow and London.
EXSTABILISHING SHOT
For my establishing shot I decided to show the city and the
surrounding mountains, I looked at pictures similar to help shape this
idea.
LOW ANGLE SHOT
For my low angle shot I looked at building shown in that
perspective and took note from them to help improve my
shot.
INTERIOR SHOT
For my interior shot I first thought of doing a shot of someone's
home however I changed this idea and decided to do a shopping
centre instead. I looked at different shopping centres and
adjusted them to try and make them fit with my other shots.
