Mulan
(Narrative Assignment #2)
Smiles bright, chins up!
Marriage is the joy of life
Mulan! Stop that ruckus now!
Youll never be a wife.

Now back home, hopes adrift
Sweet Mulan lets out a sigh
Cackling hooves then pound the earth
A commander, sitting proud and high

Hear me, hear all, listen up!
Disaster has struck at night
The Huns have attacked our land
One man from each family shall fight!

The people gasp, their thoughts a blur
Hans leader, Shan Yu, that savage beast
Destroying land, spilling Chinese blood
Their fate was slavery at the very least

No! Mulan cries, My father!
Once strong, a legend at war
The only man, now frail and weak
Fa Zhou must risk death once more

Late at night, in the armor room
She watched as he carried armor down from its case
Him buckling, struggling under its heavy weight
Mulan realized she had to take his place

So before the sun climbed up its peak (personification)
Before the birds chimed, or stars faded out
She stole away the armor, put her hair up high
And left for camp, her ideas with no doubt

Her mother in tears, her father a mess
Please, ancestors, keep our Mulan safe from harm.
The ancestors call their best, mighty Great Stone
But accidently send little Mushu as her charm

Oh Mushu, so michievious
Fails teaching Mulan how to act a man
Li Shang, commander, shows men the ways of war
And Mushu begins his plan

He fakes a letter from great General Li
Commanding Li Shang and the men
To come immediately to the mountain range
Where the Huns were attacking then

Arriving at the mountains, a terrible sight
Bloated bodies, the ground stained red
One orphaned pink doll, stray in the wind
Not a single living soul has been spared of dread

Heavy hearts, weary minds
The soldiers trudge on back
Like water, then the Huns arrive
A deathly cloud of black

Outnumbered, out skilled
There is no hope, they know
The rockets! clever Mulan shouts
Aimed directly for the snow

Slowly, then rapidly gaining ground
A blanket of white, uncontrolled
The snow opens up, swallowing whole
Burying the enemy in the cold

In fury, his mad eyes glowing
Shan Yu brings down his blade
Mulans side, the snow turned pink
Her true gender is now displayed

Leaving Mulan on the mountain
The troops report the Huns demise
Suddenly the snow starts to shift
Shan Yu is still alive!

Shan Yu is still alive!
Mulan pleads to Li
Why should I believe? he responds,
When you are now a she?

On the roof, two clutch swords
One, a girl, defending her nation
The other, desiring for control
She must stop the devastation

Mushu sits, waiting for his command
Now Mushu! Mulan cries, Save the day!
Fireworks fly through Shan Yus waist
Producing a magnificent, beautiful display

The crowd flattens, kneeling down
All praise Mulan, the worthy, the brave!
The Emperors crest and Shan Yus sword
To her was what the emperor gave

Dear Mulan returns back home
Her father overcome with tears
A flower falls over to the door
Where Li Shang then appears

Here Mulan, Li reaches out
Your helmet belongs to you.
Two hands touch, a blush erupts
Beginning of love so new

Head held high, Li Shang then asks,
May I stay for tea?
Yes! Mulans grandmother cries,
Please dont ever leave!
