Sequence of Events Flow Chart: FIVE STEPS in Expanding the Electorate of the United States


After the year 1810, no state in the United States of
America had any legal limmitation on the right to vote
based on religious differnce, in respect to Judeo
Christian faiths.
The conclusion of the Civil War resulted in citizenship for
Black Americans granting colored males the right to vote.
In 1920 the 19th Amendment outlawed denial of voting
rights based on sex. Women now had the right to suffrage
in the United States.
Following the Civil Rights movement of
1960, African American right to vote was
effectively protected as discriminatory
laws were designated unconstitutional.
The 27th Amendment in 1971 granted
eighteen year olds the right to vote based
on the fact that those who could be
drafted should have voting rights as well.
