Step1InstallJava6Update27JREorJDK
TheOracleXEdatabasethatwillbeinstalledwithPrimaveraP6Professionalrequiresjavatobeinstalled
onthesystem.TheJavaRuntimeEnvironment(JRE)orJavaDeveloperKit(JDK)canbeinstalled.Either
willwork.
ItisveryimportanttomakesureasupportedJavaversionisinstalled.ForPrimaveraP6Professional
R8.3thesupportedJava7Update15versionshouldbeinstalled.Other(newer)versionsmaynotbe
compatibleandmaygiveyouproblemswiththedatabaseportionoftheinstallationordatabase
operationsafterinstallation.JavainstallationfilesareprovidedinthePrimaveraP6R8.3zipfileinthe
followingpath:
C:\Users\username\Downloads\V3749901\P6_R83_Client_Applications\Java
ToinstallJava,rightclickonthejavamediafileandchooseOpen.Inthefollowingexamplethejre
7u15windowsx64.exeisbeingrun.
Followtheinstallationinstructionsonthescreentocompletetheinstallation.Inmostcasesthe
installationdefaultspresentedbythewizardwillgiveacleaninstallationoftheJavaenvironment.

1. ClicktheCtrl+Alt+DeletekeystogetheronyourkeyboardandselectTaskManageronthe
bluescreen.
2. ClickontheStartuptab.
3. LocateandDisabletheJavaUpdateScheduler.
4. ClosetheTaskManager.

computer.Theinstallationmediaimagewillcreatethefollowingfolderstructure:

1. LocatetheV3749901.zipfileusingtheWindowsfile Explorer.
2. DoubleclickontheV3749901.zipfiletoopenit.
3. ClicktheExtractAlltabtoextractthePrimaveraP6Professionalinstallationfiles.
4. IntheExtractCompressed(Zipped)Foldersdialog,selectadestinationpath.

5. ClickExtract.
6. Youwillseethefilesbeingextracted.
7. TheP6installationfileswillbeinafoldernamedP6_R83_Client_Applications.Forexample,if
youchosetoextractittoyourdownloadsdirectoryitwouldbelocatedinafolderlikethe
following:

stepsthatshowyouhowtoinstalltheprogram.

HOWTO:InstallPrimaveraP6ProfessionalonyourWindows8Computer
1. UsingyourWindowsfileexplorer,locatetheSetup.exefileintheP6_R83_Client_Applications
folderandrightclickonit.
2. SelecttheOpenoptionfromthemenu.Youcanalsodoubleclicktostarttheinstaller.
3. DependingonyourUAC(UserAccountControl)setting,youmaybepromptedtoallowthe
programtomakechangestoyoursystem.ClickYestoallow.
Note:UACsettingscanbechangedintheControlPanel|SystemandSecurity|ActionCenter
belowtheSecurityheading.
Theinstallermayalsopromptyoutoinstallcertainprerequisiteprogramsonyourmachine.
TheseincludetheDHTMLEditingComponentandMicrosoft.NETFramework4(x86andx64).
Ifprompted,allowtheinstallertoproceedwiththeseinstallations.

4. WhenthemainPrimaveraP6ProfessionalR8.3SetupWizarddialogappears,clickNext>.
5. ClickNext.
6. IntheChooseSetupTypedialog,clickontheStandalonebutton.

7. YouwillnowbepromptedtoinstallthedatabaseforP6.Enterapasswordofyourchoosing
andthenenterthesamepasswordintheconfirmationfieldprovided.
VERYIMPORTANT:Besuretomakeacarefulnoteofthispassword.Itwillbe
usedforallthedatabasepasswordsandtheP6administrativeuseronceyou
login.Writeitdownonthefollowingline:

NOTE:Thepasswordyouentershouldbe6charactersinlength,startwitha
letterandcontainatleastonenumber;orthefollowingpromptwillappear:

8. IntheSampleDatadialog,checktheoptiontoloadthesampledataaspartofyourP6
installation.
TrainingNote:IfyouareloadingthisinordertoparticipateinaTenSixonlineor
onsitetrainingclass,thesampledatamustbeloaded.

10. IntheReadytoinstalldialog,clicktheInstallbutton.

11. Theinstallerwillloadallthenecessaryfilesautomaticallyfromthispoint.Itmaytakeseveral
minutestoloadboththeP6ProfessionalsoftwareclientandtheOracleXEdatabase.

DuringtheinstallationyouwillseetheOracleDatabase10gExpressEditioniconappearonthe
desktop.
Whentheinstallationiscomplete,youwillseethefollowingdialog:

PrimaveraP6ProfessionalR8.3isnowloadedonyourcomputeralongwiththeOracle10gXEdatabase
andsampledata.Someoftheprerequisitesinstalledmaycausetheinstallertopromptyouthata
restartofthecomputerisrequired.Ifso,clickYestorestartyourmachine.

Startpage.
TologintoP6,enteraLoginNameofadminandthenenterthepasswordyouprovidedtheinstaller
earlier.

Thefirsttimeyoulogin,youwillseethefollowingprompt:
TosettheappropriateIndustryoption,clickontheAdmin|AdminPreferencesmenuoption.
