Dear Professor Jackie Hymes,

I struggled a bit while writing the progression two, ad analysis essay. Other than the
progression two assignments, I had yet to ever write anything about analyzing
advertisements. I came across writers block quite a few times throughout writing the
essay, which made me feel a bit unconfident about the assignment. I was struggling with
the length of the assignment, being that I felt I didnt have much to say or couldnt figure
out a way to say what I was thinking. I sat down to write multiple times, and would find
myself only being able to produce a few hundred words in each sitting. Due to my lack of
confidence for this essay, I attended a writing lab at the Learning Resource Center to seek
more guidance. While peer reviewing, I noticed that many of my peers had the same
types of issues as I did. I definitely feel like I need to improve in this form of writing.

One aspect of the assignment that I did enjoy was being able to use a photograph that I
took and write about it. Being able to use one of my own photos for the essay is why I
chose to write essay prompt, option one.

For grading, I believe I deserve an 8 out of 10 for the assignment requirements, because I
feel like I followed the option one prompt as best as I could and formatted the essay
correctly.
I think I earned a 40 out of 50 for content, being that I did struggle in what to write about
throughout this essay. Im not sure why it was so difficult for me to come up with topics/
what to write about. I started to feel discouraged which is why I sought out help at the
Learning Resource Center.
For organization, I would give myself a 25 out of 30, being that I am unsure of the
strength of my writing for this assignment.
Lastly, I would give myself a 7 out of 10 for mechanics. I proofread my essay a few
times, but sometimes I dont notice minor errors.

I hope to improve my writing skills and to, one day, enjoy writing analytical essays.

Thank you,

Amy Dersh
