National History Day Project

October 27, 2014
Commencing our year of our high school experience, our Government teacher introduced us to
the National History Day. Being the passionate man about history he is, (scoff) he encouraged all his
classes to participate in this event. All three of us: Sarina, Angelica, and Angela are friends, so choosing
our group was not a problem.
On the other hand, choosing our topic was definitely the most difficult part. Initially we decided
we would research McDonalds; however, it seemed a little inappropriate for a serious topic, and we later
decided to abandon our choice when Angelica gave us an affirmative, No. After days of contemplation,
we decided that Queen Elizabeth seemed like the appropriate individual in history to fit under the theme
of Leadership and Legacy. Plus, we root for girl power, and Queen Elizabeth was the perfect choice for a
strong executive woman.
Most of our information was found online. For our book research, we went to our high school
library and found a few books. One of the biggest issues was finding multimedia less than forty-five
seconds long.
Our topic relates to this years theme because Queen Elizabeth I was the first woman in British
history to be the monarch of the Empire. Leadership shows that she was a successful woman in
accomplishing her goals, and legacy because she has influenced many women throughout the ages to take
charge.
