At the end of WWI, the world was split into two,
the haves and the have-nots; unfortunately
Japan was apart of the have-nots. This made
Japan angry because they seen the Treaty of
Versailles as away for the United States and its
allies to maintain the status-quo of the world. As
their frustration built, Japan felt that they had
no choice but to attack Pearl Harbor to send a
message to the United States. Japan attacked
Pearl Harbor due to resources, territorial
expansion, and a long dislike between the
nations.
One of the main things that a country needs in order to
survive is resources. Due to WWII Japan once again felt the
effects of being apart of the have-nots, because they were
not one of the U.S. allies, the U.S. limited the amount of oil
that they sent to Japan and eventually cut off their oil
supply. As stated in Document C, once Japan established a
new order in 1938, and began to conquer nations in East
Asia, the U.S. begins an embargo on Japan. In Document D,
by 1940 Japan had few oil reserves and produced very little
of its own oil. By August of 1941 as stated in Document C
the U.S. places an embargo on oil shipments to Japan and
four months later Japan attack Pearl Harbor. Due to the
U.S. cutting off Japans oil supplies, Japan felt that they had
no choice but to attack the U.S.
