Radha Shivkumar joined International School Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam(lSHCMC) as a
teacher of Kindergarten at asmall campusintown, about thirty minutes away fromthemain
campus. ISHCMC is an IB World School offering all three IB programs and has a largely
EAL student population.
Althoughit has been awhile sinceI worked withRadha I have hear fromher current PYP
Coordinator that she has remained a passionate and skilled teacher who has continued to
challenge herself by attending workshops and conferences, ensuring she has skills for 21st
CenturyLearning.
Radha was a knowledgeable and experienced Kindergarten teacher who had excellent
knowledgeof an inquiry and play based curriculum. Radha planned her programwith care,
ensuringsheaddressedtheneeds of all her students. Shekept copious notes onher students'
progress and achievements and met with parents regularly. She developed detailed student
portfolios and helped her young students present their portfolios during Student Led
Conferences.
Radha has an open and friendly personality with a wonderful sense of humor. She had a
warmandcaringnaturewithher students, their parents andher colleagues. This was evident
whenshemet withparents as shegenuinely listenedto their concerns andprovidedpractical
advice to be followed at home. She was always much loved by parents and they were
delightedwhentheyheardtheir childwill beinMsRadha's classroom.
Radha was always well presented, extremely polite and well spoken, enjoyed a laugh and
couldalwaysfindthegoodinall, evenwhen it ishardto find! If sheis unsureof apolicy or
decision, shewill consider it, then, makeatimeto discussher opinionsrespectfully.
Radha was a highly professional and passionate teacher who made a difference in her
classroom.
