and guess what that means? Yes,
its SEMA time again! The SEMA
Show takes place November 4 - November
7, 2014 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
For those of you who may not know,
the SEMA Show is the premier automotive
specialty products trade event in the world.
It draws the industrys brightest minds and
hottest products to one place, the Las Vegas
Convention Center. In addition, the SEMA
Show provides attendees with educational
seminars, product demonstrations, special
events, networking opportunities and more.
SEMA Show 2013 drew more than 60,000
domestic and international buyers. The
displays are segmented into 12 sections, and
a New Products Showcase featured nearly
2,000 newly introduced parts, tools and
components. In addition, the SEMA Show
provides attendees with educational seminars,
product demonstrations, special events,
networking opportunities and more

social media campaign. The campaign
features Myles testing the strength of the
toolbox which he cant break with his
penetrating punch or kick!
Can I hit this as hard as I want?
MMA fighter Myles Jury has just stepped
up into the bed of a rugged looking black
Ram truck and is eyeing the new Blue Label
Padlock Tool Box from Dee Zee. He has
recently traveled to the manufacturers home
base of Des Moines, Iowa to take part in a
video promoting the newest storage option
from the leader in truck accessories.
Next on the scheduled shot list is a close-
up of Myles punching the lid of the tool box.
It has to look real but Myles is wondering
about the stability of the product. Dont
worry, Myles, they tell him. You cant hurt
that thing.
For the next 15 minutes, the camera rolls
as Jury unloads a series of rights down on
the Brite-Tread lid. The only evidence of the
contact are the water droplets, added to the

punch.

a stroke of genius. He carries himself on an
unassuming 5 11 and 155 lbs. frame but
those in the know understand how he got

MC recently introduced the 2015
Sierra Elevation Edition, a new
entry to the sport pickup truck
market. The Elevation Edition, which goes
on sale later this year, offers a combination
of style and content unavailable from
competitors in the sport truck segment.
Much in the same way the Sierra
Denali and Sierra HD Denali models raised
the standard for premium pickup trucks,
the Sierra Elevation Edition will surprise
and excite customers shopping for a sport
pickup, said Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice
president, Buick and GMC. With its striking
looks, sophisticated connectivity features and
legendary capability, the Elevation Edition
raises the standard of what a sport pickup
truck can be.
Built on the strong foundation of the
standard 2015 Sierra 1500 double-cab
pickup, the 2015 Sierra Elevation Edition
incorporates a body-colored grille surround,
color-keyed door handles, mirror caps,
side moldings and front and rear bumpers
designed to give Elevation a sporty
monochromatic appearance.
Elevation models also feature premium
headlamps with distinctive light-emitting
diode, or LED, lighting, fog lamps, and

Rubicon Trail, the FJ Cruiser is also well

The FJ Cruiser borrows design cues from
Toyotas famed FJ40 4x4 utility vehicle,
sold in the U.S. from 1960 to 1983 and now
sought after by collectors. The thoroughly
modern FJ Cruiser updates the classic theme
in a contemporary way. The front grille with
two round, five-inch headlights recalls the
FJ40s frontal styling, and other heritage
design cues include the hood and fender
contours and a rear-mounted and exposed
full-size spare tire with an off-center license
plate mount.
The FJ Cruiser design offers plenty of
functionality. The side access doors open 90
degrees in clamshell fashion for easy rear-

The angular wheel arches open to provide
maximum clearance for the FJ Cruisers
large 32-inch tires at full suspension
deflection. The arches are edged by flexible
fender flares that resist damage during trail
driving and also from opening doors of
adjacent parked vehicles. Three wiper arms
provide nearly complete coverage of the
wide windshield. FJs elevated air intake and
protected electrical components can keep out
water up to 28 inches deep.
Once again, there will be a special edition
Trail Teams Package FJ Cruiser, which will
be available early next year. Details will be
released at a later date.
Performance and Efficiency
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is powered by a
DOHC, 4.0-liter V6 engine that specifies
regular-grade fuel. This powerful, responsive
V6 incorporates dual independent Variable
Valve Timing with intelligence, (variable
phasing for both the intake and exhaust
cams) and produces 260 horsepower and 271
lb.-ft. of peak torque. The broad torque curve
facilitates easy cruising on or off-road. The
FJ Cruiser meets the stringent LEV II/Tier 2
Bin 5 emissions certification.
The 2014 FJ Cruiser is available in 4x2
or 4x4 configurations. The 4x2 model is
equipped exclusively with an electronically
controlled five-speed automatic transmission,
while the 4x4 model offers the choice
between a six-speed manual transmission
and five-speed automatic. The automatic
transmission varies the shifting pattern based
on road conditions and driver input.
A Flex Lock-Up feature allows the
clutch in the torque converter to maintain
a half-engaged position, enhancing fuel
efficiency and increasing the lock-up clutchs
operational range. The driver can manually
shift the automatic transmission using a
console-mounted, gate-type shift lever. The
gearshift position is also displayed in the
instrument panel.
With the optional Class Four receiver
hitch, the FJ Cruiser can tow up to 4,700
pounds (per SAE J2807 standards), enough
to take the fun with you, such as a pair of

he Moab Adventure Center has
been gearing up to outfit the
demand for mountain bike trail
riding thanks to Moabs new mountain bike
trail building boom. Nearly 30 new trails
or extensions of existing routes have been
blazed over the past 18 months.
Weve seen a steady increase in riders
this year, partly due to the news getting
out that a number of new trails have been
established around Moab, explains Jamie
Pearce, Manager of Moab Adventure
Center (http://www.moabadventurecenter.
com/). Were here to help with suggestions,
logistics, gear and outfitting as needed. We
can also take riders on guided small group
mountain bike adventures.
Claiming that it takes more than a week
to ride all of the trails here, Trail Mix, the
organization behind the commitment to
increasing excitement levels for mountain
bikers, says there are now trails for all levels
so the whole family can enjoy a two-wheel
vacation based in Moab.
Trail Mix is an advisory committee
to Grand County, Utah, that builds and
maintains trails, mostly on Bureau of Land
Management (BLM) land. The name comes
from The Mix of non-motorized trail
users: hiking, biking, equestrian and skiing,
explained Sandy Freethey, Grand County
Trail Mix Chair.
Typically the organization builds about
25 miles of new trail annually after a three-
to-12-month BLM approval process. On
average, a mile of trail is built in up to two
weeks. It may take longer when grip hoists
to move large rocks or bench cutting are
involved. Trail Mix prides itself on building
trails quickly and for less money than in
other areas. The work is done with two paid
workers and two or more regular volunteers.
We get a lot of trail built utilizing
volunteers who come to town in the spring
and fall from various colleges, youth
groups, Outward Bound and Boy Scouts.
These groups help us build for a day and are
gone. But with 10-15 hands the trail building
moves forward quickly, said Freethey.
The International Mountain Bicycling
Association (locally the newly formed
Moab Mt. Bike Association) was active this
summer involving local bikers in work party
weekends building new trails in the LaSal
Mts. working with the Forest Service. They
had a great turn out of 25- 30 people for
those weekend builds.
Freethey lists some of the major the new
mountain bike trails created in 2013-2014
in and around Moab:

Dead Horse Point West Side Trails:
Crossroads, Whiptail, Prickly Pair, Twisted
Tree. In 2013 the trail system was doubled in
length. Dead Horse Point State Park now has
17 miles of singletrack. The Park is located
approximately 30 miles from Moab.

Amasa Back Area: Captain Ahab and
HyMasa. The Amasa Back Trail is a jeep
trail that climbs about 1,000 feet to a mesa
top overlooking the Colorado River and the
Kane Creek Anticline. A short bike ride from
town, this trail is challenging and fun for
experienced mountain bikers.

Klondike additions: Alaska, Homer,
Nome, Jurrasic, Inside Passage, Chilkoot
Pass, Mi ner s Loop, Di no Fl ow N.
Extension. The Klondike Bluffs Trail
represents a step up in terms of exertion and
skills required, but is still enjoyable for fit
novice mountain bikers. The route follows
a jeep trail across Moab Member slickrock
imprinted with fossilized dinosaur tracks.
The jeep trail terminates at the boundary
of Arches National Park, where a short
hike leads to the top of the bluffs and an
impressive viewpoint.

Moab Brands: Sidewinder, Escape,
couple of short spur connector trails. Take
U.S. 191 North about 8 miles to the Bar-M
Chuckwagon; turn right to enter the Bar-M
private parking lot. Choose from a variety of
family and novice-friendly trails over varied
terrain. There are some moderately difficult
single track and slickrock sections as well.

Navajo Rocks: This is off Hwy 313; the
first 7 miles are complete; another 9 miles
are planned, all providing an intermediate
ride with aerobic climbs, heart-skipping
descents and moderately smooth cross-
country travel. An average grade is about 6%
with 5 or 6 stretches exceeding 15%.

Moab Adventure Center
Klonzo II: South Unit: Roller Coaster,
The Red Hot, Midway, Hot Dog, Houdini,
Zoltar, Top Spin, Carousel, Wizard, Gypsy,
Magician, (and coming soon the new
Gravitron Trail off of Wahoo). The trailhead
for the Klonzo Trails is on the Willow
Springs Road approximately 12 miles north
of Moab. This trail system currently has 7
trails mostly for intermediate skill level.

Gold Bar Rim - aka Blue Dot: The
BLM has this trail to build. There will be
some changes and short re-routes around an
archaeology site and one re-route for a better
line to the old Blue Dot, hopefully done by
the end of the year. Technically its not legal
to ride yet with a surface all slickrock along
shallow drainages.

Moab, Utah has become the undisputed
hub for mountain bike enthusiasts by virtue
of its beautiful red rock terrain, views that go
on forever and trails that range from beginner
to advanced and suit all riding abilities. The
Moab Adventure Center offers professionally

2014 Volkswagen Jetta SE

The Jetta remains Volkswagens best-
selling car, three years after the sixth-
generation car was introduced to the U.S.
market as a 2011 model. But Volkswagen
never rests on success and is continuously
striving to make its vehicles even better. The
2014 model Jetta is proof of this philosophy.
Under hood, the 2.5-liter five-cylinder
engine in the SE and SEL trim lines has been
replaced by a new 1.8-liter turbocharged
and direct-injection four-cylinder engine,
carrying the EA888 Gen 3 designation. The
engine makes 170 horsepower (the same
as the 2.5) and 184 pound-feet of torque (7
lb-ft more, delivered lower in the rev range).
Equipped with an automatic transmission,
it also has an EPA estimated fuel economy
figure of 25 mpg in the city and 36 mpg
on the highway, an improvement of 5 mpg
on the highway over the outgoing 2.5-liter
engine. The new engine runs on regular
unleaded gasoline.
VWs engineers also made some other
significant mechanical improvements for
2014. On the cars fitted with the available
1.8T engine, the hydraulic power-assisted
rack-and-pinion steering has been replaced
by an electric-assist system, in line with the
TDI and GLI models. All 2014 Jetta models
now have a multilink rear suspension,
replacing the previous torsion-beam layout
on the 2.0L S, 2.5L SE, 2.5L SEL, and TDI
Clean Diesel models.
Inside, the Media Device Interface (MDI)
cable has been relocated from the glovebox
to the center console, while SEL, TDI with
Premium, and TDI with Premium and
Navigation trims receive a rearview camera.
The SE with Connectivity and Sunroof
adds Keyless access with push-button
start. A navigation system and automatic
transmission are now standard on the SEL

The available next-generation Xtronic
CVT transmission utilizes an auxiliary
gearbox using planetary gearing, helping
enhance efficiency. It also features a
transmission ratio of 7.3:1, which is broader
than those of conventional CVTs and even
typical 7-speed automatic transmissions.
Fuel economy with the CVT transmission
is rated at 31 mpg City, 40 mpg Highway
and 35 mpg Combined; 27/36/30 mpg with
the 5-speed manual transmission; and
26/35/30 mpg with the 4-speed automatic

Concept
With a pair of mountain bikes mounted
and a weekends worth of gear stowed,
Chevrolets Colorado Sport concept is ready
for adventure. It was unveiled recently at
the State Fair of Texas, demonstrating the
lifestyle-oriented versatility of Chevys all-
new midsize pickup.
Its not just mountain bikes, but just
about any passion you can name, from
kayaking, fishing, dirt bikes and more,
said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing
manager. Its a truck for those who need the
versatility of a pickup to support their work
and lifestyle interests, but dont need a full-
size truck to do it.
The 2015 Colorado is available in
extended- or crew-cab models, with a choice
of a 2.5L four-cylinder or 3.6L V-6 engine.
The Colorados V-6 is the segments most
efficient, with an EPA-estimated 27 mpg on
the highway (2.5L 2WD models), and the
most powerful, at 305 horsepower (3.6L). It
also boasts the segments highest trailering
rating 7,000 pounds, when properly

Hunting Seasons Starting Soon: Hunters
Urged to Stock up on Non-Lead Bullets/
Shot
American Bird Conservancy (ABC), a
leading bird conservation organization,
recently urged hunters who are beginning to
plan for the many different fall and winter
hunting seasonssome of which start in
Septemberto protect the environment and
non-target wildlife by voluntarily switching
to non-lead ammunition.
Hunters have historically strong outdoor
ethics, and as more and more of them are
learning how lead bullet fragments left in gut
piles or lead shot scattered on the ground can
poison and kill scores of animalsincluding
Bald Eagles, California Condors, hawks,
ravens, and others--they are voluntarily
switching in ever-greater numbers to readily
available, lead-free alternatives, said
George Fenwick, President of American Bird
Conservancy.
ABC i s encour agi ng t he hunt i ng
community to switch from traditional lead-
based ammunition in favor of non-lead
alternatives because millions of birds are
poisoned every year following ingestion
of either shotgun pellets mistaken for grit
or seeds, or lead particles left in gut piles
following hunts. Among the birds most
impacted are Bald Eagles, hawks, vultures,
California Condors, and Mourning Doves.

Virginia, one of the nations premier
wildlife rehabilitation facilities, There is
an overwhelming amount of evidence that

shards of lead from spent bullets can kill
non-target wildlife when it is available to
scavengers. As many as 60 percent of all
Bald Eagles admitted to the Wildlife Center
are suffering from lead toxicosis as their
primary or secondary problem. We often
recover lead shot and fragments of lead core
bullets.
This is not a new problem, Clark
continued. It is just that the technology to
easily identify the problem has only been
available in the last few years. The question
is not whether or not lead is causing the
deaths of eagles and other wild animals; the
real question is, what are we going to do
about it? Hopefully education will move
us in the right direction, but if that doesnt
work, regulations are just over the horizon.
Non-lead ammunition can be more
expensive, but claims by some that this is
prohibitive for hunters have been shown to
be vastly overstated. For example, the cost of
most premium lead and non-lead ammunition
is now about the same according to Cabelas,
one of Americas leading outdoor outfitters.
According to user reviews on the companys
website, many hunters are so satisfied with
the performance of the non-lead ammunition
that they say they will never go back to the
old lead versions.
Fenwick and Clark agree on several
fundamental actions that can be taken
by many to reduce the lead poisoning
problem: increased voluntary use of non-
lead ammunition; proper disposal of
carcasses shot with lead ammunition;
and the continuation and even escalation
of education programs to the hunting
community on the lead poisoning issue.
Some lead-free ammunition still costs
more, but we can expect the price to continue
to come down as production increases to
cope with higher demand. And when taken
as a total percentage of the cost of going
huntingwhich includes permits, gas,
sometimes lodging, and other suppliesthe
extra cost of non-toxic ammunition is very
manageable, said Fenwick.
Increasing demand for non-lead shot
following a 1991 ban on using lead shot
for waterfowl hunting has caused the price
to drop to levels comparable to that of lead
shot. The lead ban was implemented U.S.-
wide by the federal government and was
prompted by studies that found that lead shot
was poisoning and decimating waterfowl
populations.
