Ive written 2 books about Asterisk Im the creator of the PHPARI framework Im an avid dreamer and Open Source philosopher Cloud computing means something else to each one of us For one it means: Virtual Servers For another it means: Data Services in the cloud
Every cloud provider is different Every cloud provider had pros and cons Each cloud provider is good for one thing, but not another Depending on your application, your provider may vary Consider the following in your selection: Application type primary media vs. primary signaling Topology hiding Network bandwidth limitations Cost restrictions flat rate/pay per GB Cloud service policies and restrictions Cross region stability Operating System flexibility
Consider the following: Is a control API important to you? Do you require a server instance only or more? Will you leverage other cloud services? Will NAT impact your application? What level of Security do you require? Are you limited to a single geography? Regulations and Compliancy issues?
Most cloud providers dont activate SWAP They dont like SWAP, it causes latency with storage Less SWAP = MORE Memory = Bigger Instance = $ If your cloud provider uses SSD drives, you can activate SWAP easily
Some supply only hosting (DigitalOcean) Some supply supporting services (Amazon, Rackspace, Google) Some supply application engines (Amazon, Azure, Google)
