Title is Centered and Major Words Capitalized
In Shakespeares tragedy, Macbeth, (italics for complete works) the major characters
make many disastrous decisions based on outside influences. The play is set in Scotland, and
begins with the great and good king, Duncan receiving news from messengers about a vicious
battle. They are bringing news to Duncan of the heroic efforts on the battlefield. Duncan begins
to hear traitorous news about the Thane of Cawdor and valiant news about his faithful servant,
Macbeth. (Insert thesis statement here do not use parenthesis).
(Transition word or phrases begin each new paragraph. Now make your observation, and
then set up your evidence). Quotes (evidence) from the play should have a lead in. Example:
The third witch may be the most malicious hag when she declares to Macbeth, All hail Macbeth
that shalt be King hereafter (1.3.51)! Be sure to use the original lines from the left side of the
page. The first number is the Act; the second number is the Scene; and the third number is the
Line or lines. After you have written your observation and provided your evidence, then you
should make a comment on the effect this had on the ultimate outcome of the plot.
Now repeat this process two more times.
Now write a conclusion. Reference your Thesis Statement in your conclusion, and write
an overall analysis of the effect of all three of your observations on the plot and characters
actions in the play. The analysis should be two to three pages long.
