Compass: )n this wee!s homewor! *older( ) ha+e included the instructions to access
compass learnin&. ,his pro&ram has *un &ames and lessons to either help your child &et
up to &rade le+el or to challen&e them with end o* &rade le+el wor!. ,his is a &reat tool
that should be used at home as well as in the class. )t is an indi+iduali-ed pro&ram so
e+ery student has lessons that are just right *or them in lan&ua&e arts and math.
Spelling City: ,here is also a lo&in *or Spellin& City. ,his website can be used to
practice spelling words throu&h &ames and practice tests.
Count Day: Wednesday October 1st is count day. %lease ma!e sure that your child is
in attendance on this day. ,his helps with the *undin& o* our school$
Halloween Party: .ur halloween celebration will be on Friday October 1st! )* your
child will not be participatin&( they will be han&in& out with Ms. Scranton doin& some
other *un acti+ities$ ) will ha+e more in*ormation as the date approaches.
"o School: ,here will be no school on Friday October 1#th because teachers ha+e a
pro*essional de+elopment day.
Picture Day: %icture day is ,hursday October 1$th. Come loo!in& your best$
Writing: /e are now writin& *or % &ocused minutes durin& writin& wor!shop. /e are
continuin& to de+elop our personal narrati+es by loo!in& at mentor authors. /e ha+e
been studyin& 0e+in 1en!es2 wor! and will soon start loo!in& at the writin& o* other
authors$ 3e on the loo! out *or our writin& celebration soon$
'eading: .ur stamina has really &rown o+er these past *ew wee!s$ /e are readin& *or
(# straight minutes) .ur 4rst unit is comin& to a close ne"t wee! and we will soon be
studyin& the characters in our boo!s.
Science* Social Studies: ) am sure you ha+e noticed that we ha+e been studyin&
geography in Social Studies. /e are +ery e"cited to loo! at places our letters come
*rom. ,han! you *or your help with this new unit$
+ath: All o* the students did +ery well with our last math unit. ,his month we will be
comin& up with a lot o* addition and subtraction strategies$
