Gold was discovered in the
Yukon in 1896. On there was to
find gold the stampeders also
found copper. The white pass
and Yukon route railway
linking Skagway to whithorse
had begun construction in May
1898.
In 1901 the Whitehorse Star
was already reporting daily.

was named after the
White Horse Rapids for
there resemblance to the
mane of a white horse.
