Jill Leckner is a New York State Architect. She got her Bachelor degree in Architecture from Ball State University and her Master degree in Architecture from Columbia University. Together with Jeffrey Johnson, she co-founded the office SLAB Architecture, located in Brooklyn, New York but projecting for many parts of the world, such as Americas, Europe and Asia. In this lecture, she talked about some Asian projects: Hong Kong Noise Barrier Competition, Hong Kong; Yinjiang Town Overall Design, Yinjiang, Ningbo, China; and Weifang Science and Technology University Master Plan, Weifang, Shandong, China. The first one is located in Hong Kong, China and proposes a series of environmentally sustainable sound barriers that has a modular form of hexagon. The hexagonal cells has different features, including plant types, solar panel collectors, lighting and graphic panels that adapt according to the place. The structure has 300 meters of length and is constructed with different densities of concrete. The second one, located in Yinjiang, China, proposes new cultural and sustainable identity for the historical city of Yinjiang, respecting its history and incorporating the aspects of New Chinese Urbanism. Finally, the project of a Campus in Weifang, China, with 2,000,000 square meters of area, counters the typical American campus planning, creating and central pedestrian axis with a central quad, and another east-west axis connecting the main buildings with dormitories and other activities. Besides that, the site has a straight connection with the river, where the recreational activities of the university happen.
