When first looking at the college magazine cover we

are instantly drawn into looking at the main image. This

is due to the colours that have been used. As the
model is a black man they have used the colour white
to surround him. This then shows a strong contrast
between the colours, in effect to this our eyes become
drawn to him. Not only does the colour white
emphasise the main focal point but it also suggests the
mood of the image. The colour white is often
associated with perfection, the new, the good and
purity. This then implies that this magazine is very cool
and up to date, but also has a sense of sophistication.
They have then used bright colours such as orange
and blue for the masthead and cover lines. These
vibrant colours stand out nicely from the simple white
background, showing that as well as being
sophisticated it is quite a cool, hip magazine.
Reflecting this with the target audience we see that it is
aimed at young adults, highlighting that this is a college
magazine. We can also see who this magazine is
aimed at from the cover lines around the page. On the
right hand side we see a cover line which reads The
Apple IPad, the latest craze. This has been used to
attract the audience as it is something that we
automatically relate teenagers to. Another cover line
we can look at is the one that reads University of south
Florida. If we did not know who the target audience is
for this magazine, just from looking at that cover line I
would say young adults, as young adults are at the
stage where they start looking at universities.
