The New Deal

The New Deal was a program enacted by the government designed to bring the United
States out of the Great Depression, created by President Franklin D Roosevelt in 1933. The New
Deal was a part of Franklin Roosevelts promises in his presidential run to help the United States
out of the Great Depression. The New Deal was viewed as a radical change by his conservative
political opponents, consisting of four parts that strayed heavily from right wing views, although
it helped to an extent, as even though the program did not bring the United States out of the
Great Depression and into economic recovery, it was a major contributor to the initial recovery
of its citizens.

During the Great Depression when the New Deal was released it was very controversial
as it was seen as a radical program that strayed away from the conservative views and beliefs of
the previous Conservative politicians of United States. One of the ways in which this deal was
viewed as a radical change was the governments involvement in peoples lives. Conservatives
believed that the government should have minimal interference in the lives of its citizens, while
the New Deal was aimed at creating programs to help the citizens recover in this time of need,
therefore becoming a part of their life. Although the aspect of helping the citizens through the
great depression by becoming more of a part in their everyday lives helped to take some out of
the depression, the fact still exists that it granted the federal government more power and it
whittled away at the rights of the American citizens.
The New Deal consisted of four main parts for practical support of the United States
citizens in the hard times they were facing. These parts consisted of the TVA, AAA, CCC, PWA,
and the NRA. First, the Tennessee Valley Authority which was responsible for building dams to
supply jobs, electricity to support towns and cities, and the construction of new towns. Secondly
there was the Agricultural Adjustment Act which was an act aimed at reducing the production of
farm goods, but boosting the prices for the various agricultural goods produced in the United
States. Third, was The Civilian Conservation Corps which offered short term jobs to men of all
ages to help conserve nature in the United States, such as planting trees. Fourth, there was the
Public Works Administration whose purpose was to have schools, hospitals, and other public
building constructed. Finally there was the establishment of the National Recovery
Administration also known as the NRA, which was created to have the industries provide fair
prices, wages, and working hours.
Although the New Deal did not bring the United States out of the Great Depression and
into economic recovery, it was a major contributor to the initial recovery of its citizens so that
they could advance towards a brighter future. The United States created the New Deal so that it
could have its economy recover and its people prosper. The deal caused jobs to be created for the
men searching around America for work; it provided help for the workers, as the NRA dealt with
the big industries, and among other things it gave people hope. As a result of the New Deal,
American citizens had some of their rights chipped away at, as the government had created laws
and policies to get more involved with their citizens lives.

Although the New Deal was created as a left wing viewpoint which is unfavorable by
some of the American citizens/politicians, it can be described as the beginning of the recovery of
the economy and social aspects of peoples lives after the Great Depression occurred in 193, up
until the economy recovered completely at the start of World War II.
