This week we began trying a
diferent kind of thinking called
contradiction. Noticing
contradictions requires you to
take notice of your characters,
especially the main character,
and notice when they do
something out of character. For
eample in the book !uperfudge
by "udy #lume, the main charcter
$eter is pretty grouchy and full of
complaints about his brother
Fudge and new sister Tootsie.
#ut, e%ery once in a while he does
something nice & out of
character, and those moments
are insights to the author's
purpose for the book. (n this case
it's the value of family & among
other things.
(t may sound like a lot to ask of an
) year old, but they actually en*oy
ha%ing deeper con%ersations and
blurting out contradiction +r.

them as odd. -ead aloud is one
Math
This week we started using 2 ways
to record money amounts. Example:
cent notation 147 and dollar
notation $1.47 We also continued our
adding 2-digit numbers so that we
can do it with automaticity. In
addition to that I have been driving
home the need to make proof
drawings to check their own
answers.

Parent Teacher Conferences
A conference sign-up email went out this
week from Mrs. Beene in the office. In the
email was a link to a website that allows you
to schedule your own conference with me. If
you need help or dont have computer access,
please call Mrs. Beene in the office and she
will be glad to schedule your conference for
you.
