The film industry is very diversified covering a vast number of subjects and genres.

Some movies are able to transmit messages and feelings while others are designed for pure
enjoyment. Both kinds of films can be very good, but I personally prefer the first category
because it involves an active participation in the story, thinking and analyzing every action
and word said by the characters.
One example of a movie I really enjoyed is The Shining. With a story based on a
Stephen Kings novel, the psychological movie is a masterpiece of cinematography. The
complexity of the plot and the intricacies of the characters combined with the skillful acting of
Jack Nicholson make Stanley Kubricks work a movie that will keep you on the edge of your
seat. From the beginning of the movie you will try to imagine the story but the plot filled with
unexpected twists will make you reconsider everything. Even though the scenes are not very
scary the film will induce a state of psychological fear impossible to overcome.
Great movies have the ability to change the viewers opinion over a certain subject.
Famous historical movies modified the average peoples perception of war and battles. Scenes
from such films changed the way people think about war and made them feel more
empathetically to the soldiers on the battlefield. Movies predicting future catastrophes raise
awareness on pollution and overuse of resources while sci-fi ones get the viewer thinking
about interstellar travel and alien civilizations.
In conclusion, some have the ability to leave a mark in someones life and put that
person into a contemplative state. These are the reasons why I prefer these kind of movies
over the just entertaining ones.
