Generalist Nursing Practice Introduction

The nursing program outcome of generalist nursing practice focuses on

achieving the goal of healthy individuals, families, groups, and communities. To do
this, the nurse uses the unique aspect of nursing along with disciplines in diverse
populations. I was able to meet this program outcome through both the clinical and
classroom setting. During clinical hours every week I worked with different
disciplines including physicians, pharmacists, physical therapists, and occupational
therapists among others. I also worked in a variety of different settings with diverse
populations including homecare, community health, and the intensive care unit to
name a few.
The first document is my self assessment of nursing scope and standards
completed in my second to last semester of nursing school. This assignment
required me to identify all of my strengths and weaknesses and make a plan for how
to reach all the scope and standards of nursing before graduation. Being able to
meet all of these improves my generalist nursing practice and ability to work with
others in diverse settings to improve the health of any patient I will work with in the
future.
The second document is a brochure I created on Erythema Multiforme. This
gave me an opportunity to create something to educate others in a way that was
easy for the layperson to understand. This can be very helpful when working with
an interdisciplinary team to make sure everyone understands a patients condition,
including the patient. In addition, this particular condition is not a very common
one, but can be seen in diverse populations.
