support for painful, swollen or weak joints and
surrounding muscles, tendons, ligament etc. Different
splints are designed to make sure wrist and hands are
position correctly.

Resting Splints- supports joints while resting
Pros: reduces pain, provides support for hand and wrist,
ensures correct positioning, reduces swelling and
morning stiffness.
When to wear a resting splint: While resting, at night,
during flare-ups, speak with occupational therapist
about wearing schedule.

Working Splints- support wrist and hand joints while
youre using your hands
Pros: provides support while carrying out activities that
would normally cause pain, increases grip strength,
protects and supports wrist and thumb, reduces pain
When to wear a working splint: during activities, when
wrist or thumb is swollen or feels weak, speak with
occupational therapist about wearing schedule.






Splint Maintenance:
Check skin regularly for signs of redness or
soreness
Consult with therapist on wearing schedule
Stop wearing if it causes pressure sore, redness,
swelling, excessive pain, blister or makes fingers
tingle.
Keep splint away from heat so it doesn't lose shape
(dont leave in car on warm days)
