BILATERAL PROPTOSIS IN ACUTE

LEUKEMIA

Leukemia is a disease caused by the malignant transformation of hematopoietic


cells, Orbital and ocular lesions are the third most frequent extramedullary
location of acute leukemia after the meninges and testicles. Bilateral proptosis
due to orbital involvement by tumor cells was observed in only 2 percent. To
evaluate patient with bilateral proptosis in acute leukaemia
The patient was 11 years old boy. Came with bilateral proptosis, his visual acuity
was 20/50 ODS, palpebral edema (+) palpable hard mass fixed to the superior
lid in both eyes, conjunctival hyperemia (+) of both eyes, and his cornea is clear
with corneal ekposure OD, pupil reflex + / +, the diameter of both eyes is 3
mm, limited motion in both eyes, funduscopy obtained papil edem and cup / disc
that can not be evaluate.
Before chemotherapy regimen protusio was very progressive resulting corneal
exposure, severe conjunctiva chemosis, decrease visual acuity of 20/50 ODS into
1/60 ODS, after the administration of chemotherapy appears the regression of
protusio bulbi, eyelids already closed again and protusio decrease. But this
patient survived only 18 days after the diagnosis has been established.
