Pre-Production Explanation

Pre-production is the time leading up to shooting the

opening title sequence. During this time we will need to plan
our short film down to the smallest detail to ensure the
filming is perfected.
The first step is to find a
suitable location to shoot,
somewhere with good lighting,
suitable equipment and places
to shoot from to get different shot sizes, e.g. a
first floor room to get a birds eye view shot.
A storyboard will need to be created to plan out
what shot sizes, dialogue, soundtrack is going to
be used.
Once we have planned a storyboard and have a shot list, the next stage is to
find where each shot is going to be filmed on the location, considering certain
rules (180 degree, match on action, eye line match, etc.) This will help with
post-editing as shots will hopefully fit together nicely and so will not require
any jump cuts, which will make the film look less continuous.
A risk assessment will also be done for the location to
suggest any possible dangers.
After all location matters have been organised, we will
need to create a shooting schedule. It is not possible
to film with only half a team so we need to create a
set time for filming to be done. Organisation will be
key for the production of the opening title sequence.
Further planning of the opening title sequence will
include a description of mise-en-scne. This will include what the location will
look like, any props, the lighting, costumes, hair and makeup and character
movement. This is important to plan in as much detail because it will save time
when it comes to filming as we can jump straight in with a common vision of
what the final product is going to look like.
