STRATEGY

REASON-

MEASLES first dose

EFFICACY - 85%
Coverage - 70 %
So effectively 70 x 85 = 60% are protected.

HERD IMMUNITY TO PREVENT
MEASLES OUTBREAK : 90-95%

So with all these concepts it was decided to


impliment this new strategy to decrease the
susceptible population.

Measles coverage

> 80% : INTRODUCE MEASLES SECOND


DOSE UNDER THE SCHEDULE IN THE
FORM OF MR/MMR between 1-2 years.
< 80% : Do Supplimentary immunization
activities ( SIAs)

CATCH UP CAMPAIGN
Immunize all d children between 9 months to 10
years with one dose of measles ( irrespective of
previous immunization status)
FOLLOW UP CAMPAIGN
It is done periodically ( every 3-5 years) to target
children who were born after previous catch up
campaign.
