I shared concerns with the Department of Education and have provided your name and Beth's as
persons who should be involved in the process. MDE understands the need to have balanced
representation.

I just want to re-emphasize that the U of M Psychology department IS named and I believe
that is problematic because Dr. Burns represents one model, the SCRED model.

We will work to make sure District 196 is represented on the committee. The language is
somewhat vague as to the process since task force or committee is not identified in the bill.

This is the committee. The omnibus bill is huge. Our part is two single
paragraphs around page 54. It could be talked about tomorrow, or it could be a
different part of the bill. Now is the time when things start to speed up and a
ton of things are piled together in the omnibus bill. It is way harder at this
stage to start or stop a ball from rolling.
I am fine with a study if we can also be partners, or if no one is partners. I do
not want folks representing the SCRED model to be researching and reporting
out on our model through their lens of research. We have two different
research theories we use. In brainerd they came in and 'conducted research'
and changed our model for a year and had brainerd using their assessment
tools. There was no teaching on how to use their data. It only lasted for a
year, then Brainerd quit collecting that data because it didn't inform
instruction, and went back to only using the Observation survey data. They
also, Matt Burns loudest of all, do not believe the benchmark assessment is a
valid test... But our own outside study confirmed is very reliable and correlates
with MCAs. Can we co study both models? I am all in then. Or can MDE lead
a neutral study?
We can go to the capital. Will we have a voice? Can we testify Greg?

Hi everyone,
Is this a committee hearing 196 should have representation at to voice
concerns regarding the RTI/MTSS study to be included in the bill?
