AS MUSIC INDUCTION WORK

Hand in your list of pieces, and your analysis and your short composition in
your first music lesson.
1.PERFORMANCE&ANALYSIS:
1. Write a list of pieces you played for your GCSE assessment and then list other
pieces you are learning at the moment on your instrument or voice.
2. Choose a piece you enjoy playing and analyse it to find out the following:
(You should write or type around 300 words or 1 page.)
a. What key is it in?
b. Does it modulate to any other keys? If so where and to what keys?
c. What style or period of music is it?
d. What are the fingerprints of this style?
e. What other composers wrote in this style?
2. COMPOSITION:

Compose a short piece of music for your own instrument or voice.


o 8 bars of music minimum
o Write a melody over a simple chord progression such as:

Or

Or your own choice of chords
o Aim for logical balanced phrases 2 or 4 bars long.
o Mark your work according to the criteria on the back
of this page.

Bring your instrument to the first lesson and be ready to play/sing your
composition.

COMPOSITION ASSESSMENT CRITERIA


Give yourself marks out of 5 for each of the following
criteria and arrive at a total out of 20.
1. Does the piece have logical balanced phrases? i.e. are musical
questions answered? /5
2. Does the harmony fit the melody?

4. How ambitious is the composition? (in length/amount of


parts/complexity of melodic, rhythmic and harmonic ideas)
