Description of Activity/Task/Experience that demonstrates I am at or above standard in
the specific skills for the standard mentioned above:
My father was born in Havana, Cuba while my mother was born in Minsk, Belarus.
You can imagine how diverse my life is at home with the traditions they bring into it.
From the different kinds of foods to the items, our lives are well mixed with the Latin
culture and the European culture. Also here at Liberty I have a chance to learn a subject
that isnt taught everywhere: History of the Holocaust. . In the history of the holocaust we
learn a lot about the unique cultures of not only Nazi Germany but also of the Jewish
people. This gives us students at Liberty a unique view of some of the horrible things that
have happened in the past but ultimately it gives us an opportunity to see what a strong
group of people the Jewish community is. Another thing that is very important for us to
remember is that not all of the German people supported the Nazi ideology. It shows us
students some examples of the worst and the best in people, it shows us that just because
someone is from a different culture or they believe in something different it doesnt
automatically make them any worse of a person than anyone else.

Explanation/Reflection of how the activity/task/experience described above meets or

exceeds the specific skills of the standard mentioned above:
I think that what is described above is an example of global literacy because it shows
how two cultures that I have experienced and two that have been examined and that we
have studied the history that was involved with them. It also shows that no matter what a
persons beliefs are it doesnt matter because not all of the people in Germany supported
what the Nazis were doing. That is what I think the most important part of global literacy
is, it is all about learning the differences that cultures have and coming to respect and
appreciate them.
