Starts from 1920s
Since 1619 there were restriction on the sale of marijuana
By mid 1930s, 35 states have passed the Uniform State Narcotic Law
Effectively criminalize-Marijuana Tax Act was passed in 1937, made it illegal
throughout US under federal law, except for medical and industrial usages

After the Mexican Revolution in 1910, many Mexican immigrants fled to US and
brought introduce a new usage of marijuana
1930s, during the Great Depression many were sacred of the Mexicans and linked the
usage of marijuana with the act of violence and crime

1944, New York Academy of Medicine found out through research that marijuana
does not lead to violence, crime or addiction to other drugs
1960, laws about the usage of marijuana became less strict and the usage of the
marijuana became a widespread

Last few years, marijuana has been decriminalized.


Laws have became more lenient
Some states even regulated marijuana similarly to alcohol
