Each student will pick a planning technique for a specific anatomical site from the clinical

internship to write about. You should find a new patient to be treated with this technique or you
can create a new mock plan from a previously treated patient. This should be a technique that
you find challenging and want to gain more experience performing before graduation. You
should research this technique (pros, cons, various field arrangements, or any pertinent
information that you find interesting or helpful). These findings should be included in your
paper with appropriate references. Things to include in the paper:

1. The area of disease, the stage of disease, and how the stage affected the volume to be
treated must be included.
2. A description of the simulation process and treatment setup also must be included along
with the treatment prescription.
3. Provide an in-depth description of the treatment planning process and the overall plan
used for treatment (did you try multiple beam arrangements, did you rotate the collimator
or couch, or did you modify your planning objectives? If so, why?).

Print or capture an image of at least one transverse slice of the plan showing the isodose
coverage of the GTV and the PTV (if applicable).

Describe the PTV margins (if applicable), and how/why these margins were determined.

Identify the maximum dose location and tell if you were satisfied with its location.

Clearly label all of the isodose levels you evaluated and give a short summary of your
evaluation.

4. Include all structures contoured with the rationale for contouring (were they dose limiting
structures, structures used for treatment setup, etc). For all organs at risk (OARs)
contoured, tell what their tolerance doses are and whether these tolerances were met or
not (this can be presented in a table format).
5. Provide a DVH with the GTV, PTV and all surrounding critical structures.
6. Summarize what you learned from this clinical project.
