You are on page 1of 37

You are here so i hope you have been through my previous post, where i have given

a brief introduction about ELITMUS... in case you have missed it... Here is the link :First step: Elitmus Introduction

So lets begin now...

First of all if any one of you have given elitmus exam you very well know that its not
that easy to score well.... Sooooooo How come i can help you??? I can not teach you
tricks over here... BUT i will share the Strategy to score 90+ in elitmus.

Trust me.... Juss follow the rules and... you wont be disappointed. :)
WHAT ARE BASIC RULES???

Divide the time as: 45-50 minutes for Quant, 45-50 minutes for Reasoning
and Last 25-30 Minutes for English(not even a single second for English)

Start solving paper from either Quant or Reasoning as according to your

preference and command over the subject/topics.
o
Most of you, will be tempted to start the paper from English coz its the
easiest one, but trust me... That ain't gonna help you.

Then go to the next section remaining among Quant and Reasoning

And at last in Last 25-30 minutes go for English.

HOW TO SOLVE EACH SECTION???

REASONING:
o
Don't even look at the first questions... just turn the page and come to
the last question i.e Data Interpretation. It will be a lengthy question BUT it will have
FOUR questions associated with it. So TAKE YOUR TIME(even 15-20 minutes) and
solve it. Don't get panicked that "I am taking too much time to solve this??? What
about other questions??? Should i try other ones???" NO!!! FOCUS AND SOLVE THE
QUESTIONS... AND ALL FOUR OF THEM.
o
Now Dont look at 4th question until unless you are quite( i mean
QUITE) good at Crypt-Arithmetic, you will juss waste your Precious time in analyzing
it... for those who have no idea about What is Crypt-arithmetic???
"SEND+MORE=MONEY" type questions, where you have to find the value of the
Alphabets used in the given equations.
o
After you have completed Data interpretation, Skip 4th one(Cryptarithmetic) and come to 3rd question i.e. Data Sufficiency(ek se answer aa

jayega...dono se aajegaa...dono se ni ayegaa type). There are four questions...

among them if you try... will be easily able to solve 2-3 questions(20-25 minutes).
o
Now you have Solved 4+2(atleast questions), what it means....
It means you have secured 50+ marks in Reasoning section i.e. 80+
Percentile in Reasoning. Quite easy na???? :)
o
Don't waste time in looking at other questions in reasoning
section..... mere buss ki to ni theee... baaki apki shradhaa!!!

QUANTS:
o
So till now you have completed 5+ question in Reasoning in 40-50
minutes... now its turn for Quant.

Start from beginning:

Read the question and decide weather you are able to solve it
Right Now(coz its from the part in which you have stronghold, or from the topic
which you have studied Previous Night :P) OR it will take some time you to solve it
OR it is from the topic you have skipped/ no idea about the question.

If it is First case-->> SOLVE IT AT THE MOMENT(Dont worry

about time even if you take 8-10 minutes to solve a single question as long as you
are sure that you are solving it Correctly)... and Tick mark the question.

If it is Second case -->> Mark the circle on the question no. and
move on to next question.... so that you can look at it in next round.

And if it is Third case-->> Cross mark the question.. so that you

do not waste(each second counts) your time in going through that again.

By solving this way.... If you are able to solve 2-5 questions.....

That is sufficient ... Trust me it is even more than juss sufficient...

If You have solved 2+ questions(atleast) your score will

be 20+ i.e. 60+ Percentile in Quants. Quite easy na??? :)

CAUTION: Dont get Tempted to solve More then 810 questions(if you are too good in quants) else 5-7 questions are Enough.

ENGLISH:
o
Hmm... Done with quants and reasoning and time now remaining is
around 25-30 minutes..... So get going... :)
o
English is easiest part in elitmus.
o
Start from first question...... and when you reach Paragraph based
questions, SELECT TWO FROM THE GIVEN THREE WHICH ARE SMALLER IN CONTENT.
o
That's the only key in English part... choose wisely coz you wont have
that much time to solve the third one, in case you manage to get some extra time
go for the third Para too.
o
So around 12-16 questions in will be enough.
o
With 12+ questions you will have 100+ score i.e. 90+ or 93+
percentile in English section .
So All in all you have got now:

5+ question in quant

5+ in reasoning

10+ in English

Means you got 80+ and 60+ and 90+ percentile SO YOUR OVERALL ELITMUS PERCENTILE IS 90+
AS PROMISED ;)

CAUTION: I repeat Don't get Tempted to solve More questions, coz negative marking will impact
your percentile very badly.

Books and Tricks suggested for preparation(On Public Demand :P )

Quant: Abhijeet Guha for basics, and then go for Quantitative CAT (Arun Sharma).
Reasoning: Logical Reasoning CAT(Arun Sharma)
Verbal: Do practice of Paragraphs and Sequence based question. For grammar "Which Feels
Right Is Right :P "... And for word meaning/antonym/synonym.... Juss one day before exam "take a
quick Scan of 200+ words".... If you are Lucky you might get one of them over there in test... and
as you have scanned once, jss last night... you will be able to "Guess the right choice :D "

That's all about how to score 90+ percentile in ELITMUS. Hope this will be helpful in your preparation.
Best wishes. :)(:

Welcome friends :)

These two posts are for all those who are preparing for ELITMUS. Before i start giving tips on "How to get
90+ percentile in ELITMUS" ... i think it will be good to give a brief introduction about ELITMUS.
WHAT IS ELITMUS???
Elitmus is a reputed "Bicholiya" i.e. Middle Layer between JOB SEEKERS(we :p) and JOB
PROVIDERS(Companies mostly IT Sector related). It is an organization which organizes APTITUDE
TEST, basic hiring process(first hurdle in getting job).
Companies get benifitted coz their overhead of selecting suitable candidate is being taken care by
elitmus.
We, students get benefited coz we get a platform where we can showcase our caliber and thus gets
noticed by job providers(companies)
Elitmus is getting benefited coz......coz of course they are charging both the parties for the SERVICE they
are providing.
Soooo.........Everyone is getting benefited... a win win situation :)
HOW IT WORKS???
Its quite simple......Following are the steps:

Give ELITMUS exam.

Get good percentile.

Get calls for interview from companies.

Crack the interview and get the job.

Told you.... its quite simple!!! ;-)

SCHEDULE, PATTERN AND SYLLABUS???

Elitmus organizes the exam in various cities all over INDIA. Go to ELITMUS WEBSITE register and then
select the Date and Place where you want to attend the exam. After that make payment. Once payment is
done you will receive your call letter 1-2 days prior to the date of exam on the email id you have provided
during registration.

Paper contains three sections:

Quantitative aptitude(20 questions)

o
Questions from Time and Distance, Work, Average, Percentage, Profit Loss,
Geometry, Probability, Permutation and Combination, Number System, Algebra

Reasoning aptitude (20 questions)

o
Divided in 5 parts: Data sufficiency, Crypt-arithmetic, Data interpretation, Logical
deductions based relational questions(2).

English(20 questions)

o
3 passage, 2 fill in the blanks, 2 find the proper sequence of sentence, 2 word meaning
etc.
Time given to solve the whole paper 2 hours.

Books for preparation: Quantitative CAT Arun Sharma.... Time ya kisi bhi CAT level ka matter le
lo.Prepare from any CAT preparation book.

As the post is getting to Lengthy... so i am breaking the topic into two posts. Here is the link of
Final post explaining "How to get 90+ percentile in ELITMUS"

mportant things for elitmus exam preparation students.

By Praveen Jain on Sunday, 7 July 2013 at 22:00

Important things must follow by students who want to crack elitmus

1. Paper level is very tough. I think elitmus exam is a mock for CAT students.
2. Dont try to attempt lot of questions.
3. 10 per section in elitmus is ideal attempt to exam.
4. For problem solving section, best scoring part is cryptoarithmetic questions. Try as many
question as you have. For crypto arithmetic question dont refer any books. Just follow this site
http://cryptarithmetic.wordpress.com/
If you are cryptoarithemetic question are correct then your problem solving section is completed.
In DI problem, you cant write all the questions in time. It is highly impossible.
5. For verbal section, best scoring area is verb form type questions. For example download
elitmus paper. Now, coming to paragraph questions. Almost 12 questions are there, it is the best
scoring area.
6. For quant section, nothing I can tell about quant because its totally jumbles. They cover
almost all topics.
Books to use:
1. TIME material is OK but not preferable. If you are beginner, it is the best book.

2. I dont know about arun Sharma. I heard that it is best book.

At last, if you attempt 30 questions in a elitmus exam. If 20 were correct then you can make it.
Almost 90 percentile above is in your hand.
Last important thing is sectional percentile is important. So, dont attempt 20 questions from one
section and 10 from another section.
3.If anyone written twice or thrice. Best one will be consider.
If anyone wants to edit it. Edit it and make it easier for upcoming students .

Elitmus Syllabus | Syllabus for Elitmus pH Test

There are 3 Sections of an eLitmus pH Test Paper and each section contains 20 Questions. We
will discuss the "syllabus of Elitmus" based on each section.
1.

Quantitative Aptitude:

2.

Problem Solving or Data Interpretation and Reasoning

3.

Verbal Ability

There are 20 Questions in each section.

Let's discuss syllabus for each section of the elitmus paper :

1. Quantitative Aptitude Syllabus for elitmus pH Test

Please go through the following Quantitative Paper:

http://www.placementyogi.com/placement-papers/elitmus/2013-elitmus-placement-paper/2

- Probability (Roughly 2 Questions)
- Permutation Combination (2 Questions)
- Number System (3-4 Questions)
- Speed, Time and Distance()
- Time and Work
- Geometry
- 1 or 2 Questions not from any topic, but based on common logic.

Out of the 20 Questions asked, 8-9 Questions are more than enough to get a good percentile in
Quants Section.

If You can solve more than 12 Questions , be assured to get more than 95 percentile in Quants
Section.

Go through Arun Sharma's Quantititive Aptitude Book for CAT. That should be enough for
practicing the questions asked in Elitmus pH test. It covers the syllabus of Elitmus in a pretty
good way for the above topics.

2. Problem Solving Syllabus for elitmus pH Test:

Puzzles!! Puzzles!! Puzzles!!

This is the toughest section of Elitmus pH Test.

Syllabus for Problem Solving Section of Elitmus pH test :

- Questions on Seating Arrangement

Cryptarithmetic Problems?

Paper 1 : Elitmus

Q. What is a crypt arithmetic problem?

Ans: It is a mathematical problem in which each letter represents a digit (for exam
Our aim is to find the value of each letter.

Paper 2 : Elitmus

No two letters represent the same digit (If A = 5, B cannot be 5).

Quantitative
Aptitude Question
Paper

The problem could be quite challenging but could be made very easy if solved with
tricks and presence of mind.
Follow these rules:
1. 0 * n = 0
2. 1 * n = n
3. 5 * odd number = (x)5 where x can be 0/1/3/4,
like 5 * 1 = 05 (x = 0)
5 * 3 = 15 (x = 1)
5 * 7 = 35 (x = 3)
5 * 9 = 45 (x = 4)
4. even number * 6 = (x)(even number) where x can be 1/2/4
like 2 * 6 = 12 (x = 1)
4 * 6 = 24 (x = 2)
8 * 6 = 35 (x = 4)
Let's understand the way how we will solve these questions with an example:

Step 1:

Determine the characters which can be 0. Although this may not be useful in all ca
the track of it may be useful in many cases.
In our example the multiplicand is FAC and multiplier is HEI
Rule 1: Any leading character will not be 0, so neither of F/H/E/C/D is 0

Rule 2: If any digit among E/I in multiplier is 0 then the corresponding row in mul
be all the same digit,
but in our case no row is either EEE/III so neither of E/I is 0

Rule 3: In multiplicand FAC, if C is 0 then the first, second and third row of multip
contain the trailing character as C,
but we don't have trailing character in all row as C, so C is no 0
Result of Rule 1, Rule 2 and Rule 3: Characters which can be 0 are - A/B/G/J

Note: Although the rule says that A can be 0 but if you come across situation where
consider one among these suspected character as 0,

then consider A(middle character of multiplicand) in the last. Or you can assume it
for simplicity.

Concluding the step 1: None of the character among multiplier, multiplicand and al
character in each row will be 0.
So Characters which can be 0 are - B/G/J

Step 2:

Find whether we have any of the following property(in general for all problems):
I*C=I

Paper 3 :
Cryptarithmetic
problems - eLitmus I * C = C
: How to solve
Cryptarithmetic
Problems?

E*C=E
E*C=C

H*C=H
H*C=C

Remember, they will give problem which has one of these property and this will be
of our approach to solve it.
We see that we have the property E * C = E

Now from the rule 3 and 4 we notice that either E is 5 and C is an odd number or E
number and C is 6

We will now proceed with the first case when E is 5 and C is an odd number and w
second case if we are not able to solve by this assumption.

Also we will have to think differently from here for each problem but practising m
problem will make it easier.

Now look carefully, the last column from left says: D + carry = 5. Now think what
maximum carry from the last sum C + I = B ?
Remember the sum of two number will never give a carry more than 1 and sum of
will never give a carry more than 2 except in one case:

UVW
*XYZ
------------9999
9999
9999
------------1109889

Here the 2nd column from left gives a carry equals to 2 when both numbers of the

same and are equal to 9(not in our case)

So we see that in D + carry = 5, the carry must be 1 and hence D has to be 4

Also C can be either 3/7/9 and can't be 1 because if C was 1 then trailing character
would have been I,5 and H respectively.
Try to minimize the number of values that a character can have. Let's do it for C.

Focus on all C in our problem and see how they are generated. Look at second row
multiplication where:

FAC
*5
--------

CJF5

This multiplication give a number which will always be smaller than 5000 so C can

FA3
*H5I
------------5 5AG
3JF5
4IJ4
------------5BF5FG

Focus on the second row of multiplication again:

FA3
*5
-------3JF5

We can see that F can be either 6 or 7.

Let's proceed with F = 6 and will consider F = 7 if we are stuck and are not able to
=6

6A3
*H5I
------------5 5AG
3J65
4IJ4
------------5B656G

Now see the second column from right A+5=6, which implies that A must be 1 and
haven't gotten any character yet with value 1,
accept the value and proceed further.

613
*H5I
------------551G

3J65
4IJ4
------------5B656G

613
*5
-------3J65
=> J = 0

613
*H5I
------------551G
3065
4I04
------------5B656G

613
*H
-------4I04

=> H must be 8 so that when multiplying H with 3 gives unit place digit as 4.

613
*85I
------------551G
3065
4I04
------------5B656G

613
*8
-------4I04

=> I = 9

613
*859
------------551G
3065
4904
------------5B656G

From above we can easily find that G = 7 and B = 2

613
*859
------------5517
3065
4904

------------526567
Hence, Solved!!
