Textual Analysis

This a double-page spread from the

magazine Kerrang. One of the features
on this is the Z pattern as it your eyes
are immediately drawn to the main
image and the headline, allowing the
audience to see what the feature is
about. To enforce this they have also
included a quote from the reader to try
and entice them into choosing this
magazine to read as they have chosen
almost an enigma quote which will lead
the audience into wanting to know what
exactly the quote is meant to suggest.
They have also stuck to convention of
having a drop cap at the start of the article, this allows the audience to see the importance of the
the text and draws the reader in. Also having it as a dark pink that stands out against the the
black background also the reader to be engaged by it, this allows links in with why the questions
are coloured in the same way, it also allows the reader to distinguish the difference between the
answers. On the double-page spread there are also gutters to break up the text into two columns
which helps the reader stay in line with what they are reading so it doesnt all blurs together, its
also allows the page to look stylish in the layout which would appeal to the target audience.
They have included a kicker to help entice the audience and to give them a brief overview of the
article to try and engage the audience to reading it by not giving out too much information away.
The text is white so it stands out against the dark background of the image but they have also
highlighted the most important keywords in dark pink so they will catch the reader's attention
and by highlighting specific words they can create a sense of enigma which leaves the reader
wanting to find out more.
They have included the main image on the left side of the page as it will be the first thing they
see when they turn the page and as she is from a well known band the reader would be hooked
from the very second of seeing whos on the page. She is also making direct gaze to the
audience to engage them into the article even more as the reader will feel involved with the
singer.
